Liturgy

LITURGY is the public worship of our community. Our lived Christian response to the Christ event (the life, death, resurrection of Jesus Christ) individually and communally is expressed in a variety of prayer forms and culminates in the Eucharistic Liturgy (Mass).

LITURGY COMMISSION

The goal of this commission is to enhance liturgical life for the total community by making the liturgy a vibrant, active part of our lives. The variety of prayer forms, calls for a variety of styles and work plans. Some events are implemented by one or two people. Others require the entire Liturgy Commission. In any case, the worship even is planned, implemented, and evaluated. The Commission may be involved in all steps mentioned or just as advisory. Some examples of events and liturgies are: workshops for Liturgical Ministers, Feast Day Mass, Celebrate Cultures Weekends, Penance Services, Worship Space Environment and Homily Planning.

Meetings are on the second Monday of the month (except for September) and as needed. The meetings begin at 7:16 P.M. If interested please contact Ron Marinelli, parish Liturgist 303-289-2258.

Eucharistic Ministers
Lay Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist help distribute the Body and Blood of Christ at Mass.  A special reverence for the Eucharist is essential.  Eucharistic Ministers may also choose to take the Eucharist to the shut-ins and those in the hospital (see Ministers of Care under OUTREACH COMMISSION).

Greeters/Ushers

Greeters are those people who welcome parishioners as they enter the church prior to each Mass. A warm smile and friendly hello are the main requirements needed. Other duties include handing out music books and missalettes, regular and special collections, encouraging parishioners to bring the gifts up to the altar during the Offertory, and distributing the bulletins.

Join us in "making hospitality your special care". (Rm 12:13)

Altar Servers
An altar server aids the Presider (priest) at Mass. This ministry is open to all registered members of our parish who have reached the age of nine (9) years and have received the Sacraments of Baptism and Eucharist.

Pastoral Musicians
The ministry of music is an opportunity for you to share with the Holy Cross Community the talents you have been given. Whether it is your playing of a musical instrument and/or your sharing of your vocal talents, all are welcome. Musicians must have an awareness and understanding that our songs are truly sung prayer and must be proclaimed in that manner. We have music at all of our weekend liturgies and Holy Days. Sometimes it is a Cantor with an accompanist and other times we are able to group individuals together with an accompanist and instrumentalists. Contact the parish Liturgist, Ron Marinelli.

Choir
Currently we openly welcome youth and adults to join together, as a group, in singing praise and giving praise through instruments. The ministry of the choir is two-fold: first it is to provide music at Feast Day, Christmas and Easter. We continue to invite members into community singing by including celebrations of Fist Communion, Confirmation and the 2nd Sunday of the month (October, November, January & May). Second is to build community among the musicians.

Childrens' Choir
Children in grades K-6 are invited and welcome to join us for the Children's Choir. This choir will usually sing on Christmas Eve, Easter morning and on Mothers' Day. This is a fun group to be a part of. They will learn songs appropriate for each holiday. Our hope is that one day, we will be able to keep the Children's Choir singing once a month at a Sunday Mass. Youth and Adults who would like to assist, play instruments, and/or cantor are also encouraged! Practices are announced in the bulletin.

Baptismal Garment Sewing
Be a part of an infant's new life in Christ! Each month we baptize on the average eight infants who receive the gift of a white garment from the Holy Cross Community. Be one who sews these infant Baptismal "bibs." All materials are supplied.

Prayer Group
This Prayer Group meets every Tuesday evening in the Parish Office area at 7:00 P.M. All are invited to stop and pray. Bring prayer intentions, prayer requests and/or a favorite Bible reading. Fellowship and faith are shared and strengthened here. Praise God! Contacts are Carmen Salazar or Julia Martinez or the parish office.

Prayer Chain
The Prayer Chain is available for everyone who needs immediate prayers. There are a number of people who are part of the prayer chain. When someone is desiring additional prayer support, they would call the contact person(s). They in turn would pass on the prayer request, phoning the next person on the "chain." That person would then pass on the prayer request to the next person and so on. To join the Prayer Chain or to place intentions on the Prayer Chain please call the parish office.

Childrens' Liturgies

Plans and implements special liturgies for children in grades K-6 to help them experience the Mass on their level.

Celebrate Cultures Weekend
Twice a year the liturgy commission chooses a culture to highlight in all of the weekend liturgies. After the Saturday evening Mass we usually have an ethnic dinner with some form of culture specific entertainment.

Eucharistic Bread Bakers

Bake unleavened bread for special Masses.
